DataDot to Attend FIRST Rural Crime Conference
DataDot will be attending the first ever Rural Crime Conference to be held in South Africa. This is a joint enterprise between UNISA (School for Criminal Justice) and organized agriculture : Agri SA, RPO (Red Meat Producers Organisation) and AFASA (African Farmers Association of South Africa). The theme of the conference is “The Challenges of Rural Crimes Affecting Agriculture” and the aim is to allow scholars in rural criminology and practitioners such as policy makers, police officials, private security officers, lawyers, prosecutors and trauma counselors to interact in an interdisciplinary manner.
The SAPS and AgriSA are already in discussions with regards to the National Rural Safety Strategy and are in the process of developing a safety plan of action in farming communities. This plan of action aims to increase police visibility and ensure farmers play an integral part in overall security. Over 1000 police reservists are enrolled for training and will then be positioned across the country’s rural areas.
Farming communities who are going through tough times need to know that security measures extend to the rural areas. Progress and prosperity for farmers and South Africans will result in more reinvestment in the economy.
